Beachwood Fire Captain Mike Palumbo,
the Namesake of the Fire Fighter Cancer Presumptive Law in Ohio,
Succumbs to Occupational Brain Cancer

It is with a heavy heart that the Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters reports the passing of Beachwood Fire Captain Michael Palumbo. Captain Palumbo passed away after a long battle with occupational brain cancer. Mike was the namesake of Ohio’s Michael Louis Palumbo Jr. Act, which provided presumptive workers compensation for fire fighters diagnosed with occupational cancers.

Mike was a captain with the Beachwood Fire Department and a member of Local 2388 since 1992. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years and 5 children, ranging in age from 8 to 21.

Mike was proud to be a fire fighter. It was his life long dream. He spent the majority of his career at the Beachwood Fire Department. Before joining Beachwood, he worked at the Willowwick Fire Department, serving the city where he was raised. At Beachwood, Mike was a member of the honor guard, a SWAT medic, and part of the HazMat Team.

The Palumbo family is asking for privacy during this difficult time. Memorial Service details will be released as they are finalized.
