Janus Resources

The recent US Supreme Court ruling on Janus v AFSCME Council 31 has decided that public safety unions collecting fair share fees or agency fees is unconstitutional.

Locals currently collecting fair share fees should immediately stop collecting the fees.  Employers that are deducting fees from the wages of fair share payers should be informed in writing to stop collecting the fees.  Any fair share fees deducted from fire fighters’ pay but not yet remitted to the Local should be reimbursed back to the employee.

In the meantime, we must take this as an opportunity to renew our member engagement efforts.  We should take this ruling as a challenge to continue demonstrating the value of belonging to the OAPFF and the IAFF. The OAPFF is at the ready to assist you in better communicating that value.
Below are some tools and materials to help local leaders navigate the post-Janus world.
